Wilder RV was founded in the mid 80’s by Mr. & Mrs. Al & Edna Wilder. Al owned
the Buick dealership in town and decided that he wanted to start dabbling in the
RV business. Unknown to him the RV business took off like a wild fire and he soon
after he decided that the Buick dealership was going to be a thing of the past.
In 1992 Wilder RV moved from its small location downtown to a larger facility
he built specifically for his RV business with the goal of becoming one of the
best RV dealers in Missouri. In 2005 Al passed away leaving his legacy to his
wife and family. The family continued to run the business with great success
but in 2007 they decided that the family business wasn’t quite the same without
the man who started it all.
The Wilder family approached Gregg Smith “the local Ford dealer” about
purchasing the company. Gregg had worked for Al in the late 70’s at the Buick
dealership before going into business for himself. In September of 1992 Gregg
Purchased the Ford dealership which is located right next door to Wilder RV.
Al and Gregg had a very close relationship even outside of work. They served
on the city council together and Gregg was the only non family member pallbearer
at Al’s funeral. The Wilder family knew of this relationship and it only seemed
right that if someone was going to carry on the Wilder name it needed to be
someone that was considered family.
On January 15, 2008 Gregg & Preston Smith purchased Wilder RV from the Wilder
family to continue the vision that Al started and strive to be one of the top
Missouri RV dealers. To this day we are located in the same location and provide
the same great sales, parts and service that “Big Al” dreamed of.
